Server Installation Instructions
A Network Installation may be done in one of two
ways:
Hard Disk Based Installation: The Folio Views
software, Workstation Installation Software and all
the libraries selected for installation will be copied
to the location specified, on the Network Server.
The CD will not be required after Installation is
complete. The amount of disk space required depends
on the libraries selected. Installation will detect
the amount of free disk space on the computer and
calculate the space required for the libraries selected.
The instructions for a Hard Disk Based Installation
commence on page 19.
CD-ROM Based Installation: Only the Workstation
Installation files, and the files required to run
the Folio Views software from the CD will be copied
to the location specified on the Network Server. The
CD will need to remain in the Network Server after
the Installation is complete, in order to access the
libraries.

here for a CD-ROM Based Installation.
Hard Disk Based Installation
The following steps may be undertaken either at the
server directly or from an "installation workstation".
The same installation workstation must be used whenever
the CD-ROM is updated, as important entries are made
to its hard drive and Windows registry.
1. Create a shared target directory
|
Create a directory on your server. (eg: C:\BWNPUBS).
You can use Windows Explorer or My Computer
to do this.
Share this directory, so that each user will
have full READ/WRITE rights to this directory.
Do this by right-clicking on Bwnpubs and selecting

2. Determine the computer name of
your server
From the

Select the Identification tab and write down the
Computer Name of the server (eg.MLJ_NT01).
You will need this to map the shared target directory.

For the Path: enter the Computer name and the share
name in this format:
\\Computer_name\share_name

For example: \\MLJ_NT01\BWNPUBS
|
VERY IMPORTANT NOTES:
- The installation computer as well as all
other workstations will need to have the same
mapping to this directory, and the CD- ROM
drive on the Server in the form of a fixed
drive letter. (eg. The server's directory
C:\BWNPUBS must be mapped to the letter P:\
on each workstation).
- In the case of a network that makes use
of 32-bit (Windows 95/98 and\or Windows NT)
and 16-bit (Windows 3.x) workstations, the
Initial Network Installation MUST be run from
a computer with a 32-bit operating system
such as Windows 95/98 or Windows NT Workstation.

4. Place the CD into the CD-ROM
drive on the Server.
(Users of Novell Netware who want to run the electronic
libraries from the CD will need to mount the CD on
the Server).
5. Run the installation program
Click on Start and select Run.
In the "Open" textbox type D:\Setup

to BWNET in Step 4 above). Ensure also that the location
for the rights files is P:\PUBS (where P:\ is
the drive letter that you have mapped to BWNET in
Step 4 above):
Note: For a Hard Disk - Based installation, the
publication from CD option must be de-select.

If the computer acting as "the server" is running
Windows 95/98, then you may not be able to map a drive
letter to a drive on that computer. The computer will
not be able to locate its own computer name.
To create a mapping on the server for the directory
(Step 4 of a Network Server-based install and Step
5 of the Network CD-ROM based install), do as follows:
From the
menu on the server, select

REM path for CD-ROM Subst P: c:\Bwnpubs
Where P: is the drive letter that you wish to map
to and C:\Bwnpubs is the target directory for the
installation.
Close the System Configuration Editor. You
will be asked whether you want to save the chages
to the Autoexec.bat file. Click on the
button. View the illustration.
Restart the computer and proceed with Step 5 of
a Netwrok Server-based install or Step 6 of a Network
CD-ROM based install.

Instructions for silent installs
- Ensure that all drive mappings of all the workstations
are identical.
- Perform a network installation on the server as
per normal.
- Perform a workstation installation with the following
syntax:
P:\Workstat\Setup -r
(where P:\ is the mapped drive)
The "-r" switch will record what you select during
the installation and write a script file called
"setup.iss" to the WINDOWS folder of that workstation.
This is a simple ascii file. Future workstation
installations can read this file and use it for
its parameters instead of having the operator
select each option.
- Now, to prepare to use the silent install process,
copy the SETUP.ISS into the directory on the server
named "workstat" which was created as a result of
running the network installation in step 2.
- To test the results, go to a second workstation
and execute the following command manually:
P:\WORKSTAT\SETUP.EXE -s
(where P:\ is the mapped drive)
The "-s" switch will look for and read the file
called "setup.iss".
- If you like the results, add the command to the
logon script of thenetwork and workstation setups
should be setup as part of the login script.
NOTE - If you do not want to copy the setup.iss
file into the workstat directory, you can indicate
the path of that file when you run the setup program
as per the following example:
P:\WORKSTAT\SETUP.EXE -s -f1Y:\SETUP.ISS
where -f1 = Location of the ISS file

Uninstalling Libraries on the Workstation
Once electronic libraries have been installed, they
may be uninstalled, should the need arise.
To uninstall electronic libraries:

Panel
Double-click on
then select the Butterworths
Publications Workstation entry.
Click on the
button.

A Confirm File Deletion dialog will be displayed,
prompting you to confirm the removal of the Butterworths
Publications (Stand Alone) and all of its components:
Click on the
button to confirm removal.
The uninstall program will now remove all
installed files and components. Wait for all of the
components to be ticked and for the
button to become active.
Click on the
button to close the Remove Programs From Your Computer
dialogue.
Network Update Instructions
At the server
Proceed as you would for a new installation (refer
page 20). If your Butterworths/MLJ CD-ROM is a subscription
product, then you will be entitled to a number of
updates within that subscription. For example, a 1999
subscription to The Singapore Case Law Library entitles
the subscriber to three CD-ROM issues - an initial
CD-ROM and then two updates.
All CD-ROMs in the subscription will require you
to run setup as you would for a new installation (refer
page 20).
Only your first CD-ROM installation within a subscription
period requires you to unlock the CD-ROM. Hence your
installation routine for a 1999 subscription year
consisting of three releases would be as follows:
|
1999
Release 1 of 3
|
1999
Release 2 of 3
|
1999
Release 3 of 3
|
2000

So long as the installation paths and program folders
remain unchanged, any update at the server will be
accessible from the workstations.
